Purpose of a Nebulizer
Nebulizers are used for therapy purposes, as an efficient and effective method of delivering medications directly into the lungs by inhalation. Nebulizers work with a wide variety of medications, and can be beneficial for patients with such conditions as asthma, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

How It Works
A nebulizer works by delivering a mist of medication directly into the lungs. Not only does this method of delivery cause the medication to take effect much more rapidly; but because the medicine is going directly to the lungs, this method reduces risk of side effects when compared with traditional medication which is metabolized into a less effective form by the body.

Parts of a Nebulizer
When you order your nebulizer, you'll receive a small, table-top compressor, along with a tubing kit containing a mouthpiece and/or mask (see item description for parts included in your kit), a cup that screws on to the mouthpiece or mask, and several feet of oxygen tubing which connects to the compressor.

Using A Nebulizer
  1. Scrub hands with soap and water. Dry well.
  2. Place nebulizer on a flat surface. Check air filter. If dirty, remove air filter and place under cold water for two minutes until clean. Dry well and replace.
  3. Pour medication into nebulizer medicine cup. If alternative medication mixture is needed, do so as instructed by doctor.
  4. Connect medicine cup to nebulizer mouthpiece and hose.
  5. Connect hose to nebulizer and turn it on.
  6. Place mouthpiece in your mouth and breathe in through your mouth for 10 to 15 minutes. You should see mist forming in the medicine cup.
  7. If you see a decrease in mist, tap the machine to dislodge any medication that might be stuck.
  8. When you notice a significant decrease in mist formation, and a sputtering sound, nebulizer treatment is complete.
  9. Turn off nebulizer, remove parts and wash items using dishwasher detergent and hot water. Allow to air dry.
